June 2011
We have now finished riding for the season. Our horses are looking forward to a break and will be moving to their winter grazing soon. We are planning to start riding again in mid-September, but we will have definite dates closer to the time.

Unfortunately Nutmeg did not work out for us and she has gone to a new home. We are still looking for a replacement horse for Billy, around 15hh, under 15yrs, solid build. Must be quiet to handle and ride in all aspects. If you know of anything please contact Maree 4811 343.

Our lovely horse Billy has been sold to a wonderful new home in Oamaru, where he will get to do lots of high-country trekking and cavalcading. We are sure he will have a ball! He will be much missed by us all at Dunedin RDA. We are looking for a replacement - see below.

We have a new pony on trial called Nutmeg. So far she is proving to be very quiet and is not bothered by anything.

We are looking for a special pony/horse to join our team. Must be around 15hh, under 15 years, quiet and safe to ride and handle in all aspects. If you know of anything please contact Maree 4811 343.

We have a new Instructor on Saturdays called Vanya Tickle. Vanya is an experienced horsewoman and it will be great to have her on board in a coaching capacity.

We have now purchased Summer and are using her at RDA for disabled riding sessions. She is taking it all in her stride and everyone loves her spots!

Summer has passed the Vet Check with no issues, so we are hoping to purchase her soon! She is a lovely kind natured pony who will hopefully work out very well for us.

We now have a pony called Summer on trial. She is a 13.1hh, 13 year old appaloosa mare. She has done lots of pony club and competing and is settling in to RDA very well.

Unfortunately our Family Gala Day was cancelled due to heavy rain, strong winds and freezing temperatures! However we were still able to have the grand opening of our Day Shed, and the opportunity to meet and catch up with past RDA volunteers.

Sadly our beloved pony Utu has been put down due to cancer. He will be hugely missed by all and RDA will not be the same without him. Hopefully he is now at peace in horsey heaven. A special thank you to his owner Lyn Evans for sharing him with RDA.

Daisy has passed the vet check with flying colours and has been purchased by Dunedin RDA.

We have a pony called Daisy on trial for four weeks. She is a 14.1hh, 7 year old Warmblood mare. So far she is going well, and has a lovely quiet nature.

Unfortunately Sammy did not pass the Vet Check so he is going back to his owner.

We have a pony called Sammy on trial for 4 weeks. He is a 13.1hh, 12 year old chestnut Arab x English Riding Pony. He has settled in well, and hopefully will be a super pony for us.

Unfortunately we are no longer able to use Red for RDA, so we are looking for a replacement: a quiet stocky pony around 14hh and under 18 years. We are also looking for a pony around 12.2hh to replace Mack who was retired at the end of last season. If you know ponies that fit the above descriptions please contact Maree 03 4811 343.

Dunedin Group RDA was at the 150th Otago A&P Show on Saturday the 23rd, giving pony rides and raising money for RDA. Unfortunately we didn't make as much money as we usually do, but we had a good day and the horses were well behaved.

We now have now successfully puchased both Billy, a 14.2hh 12 year old gelding and Clyde, a 13.2hh 13 year old gelding. Billy was kindly sponsored by ANZ. For more information please see the Our Horses page.

We are delighted to have found a loving permanent home for Abby, a horse that we rescued about 5 months ago, after she had been abandoned in a paddock for over a year. She has settled in well in her new home and has become friends with the goat Jeeves. She is enjoying lots of grass and attention!.

We are delighted to announce that Red has kindly been leant to us by his owner for RDA sessions in the foreseeable future. Red is a lovely pony and will be a great asset to RDA.

Sadly Cindy has been retired from RDA as she has gotten too old and stiff. She has gone to live next door where she will continue to get plenty of love and attention.
